Branching to the right of King Street leads into the 'Craigs' shopping area adjoining the Thistle's Shopping Centre and covering Port Street, Dumbarton Road, Pitt Terrace, Allan Park and Upper Craigs all offering a fine selection of quality restaurants and traditional shops.

The main junction of the Craigs is dominated by the Wolfcraig Buildings, a unique architectural showpiece which was one of the first buildings in the country to be constructed with steel beams and also to have electric lighting. If you look up you will see the wolf, a special symbol of Stirling's history & myths.

At the far end you can relax at the Black Boy Fountain and gardens, then make your way to the shops in Dumbarton Road past what remains of the Old Town Wall, leading to the beautiful gardens surrounding the Albert Halls, the Back Walk (one of Europe's finest urban walkways) and the famous Smith Art Gallery.

Stirling's vibrant local economy is perfectly demonstrated by the range of quality retail outlets trading in Stirling city centre and the surrounding local areas.

The secret to their success, and ability to compete with Internet based retailers, is the fact that the are not just box shifters. They are offering quality, and very much essential, added value service and professional advice to customers for the products they are supplying. That's why they are still in business and that's why people still use them.

There are a fair share of national operators who have clearly identified Stirling as a vibrant place, where people have a higher than average disposable income. In Stirling you will find many of our well known national brand names that are located in just about all the shopping centres in the UK. They are well established as well with their Internet presence.

The national retailers are now using video to really engage with their customers. Video produced by Dorothy Perkins for example have been uploaded to YouTube and embed code open for us all to enjoy and share.

Dorothy Perkins Video uploaded to YouTube 26 Nov 2014. Should smaller independent retailers be doing this too?

Stirling also has a range of really knowledgeable independent retailers, who actually have stock and products to sell. They can offer help and advice and in-depth product information about their specialist products and services, and are surprisingly competitive with online retailers, whilst offering customers so much more.
